Several years ago, an industry survey was conducted and posed the question “Would you encourage your children to work in this industry?"
The response was as disheartening as it was extraordinary. Not one person answered, “yes.” The negative response was related to the inherent danger of the work and the seemingly complacent attitude of management toward safety. 

We believe that creating a safe workplace is more than a business objective; it is our moral obligation.
Our safety program is based on our CASHES policy. The program’s goal is straightforward: create an accident-free workplace. All employees are personally accountable for their well being and that of their co-workers. This has led to record safety performance.
In addition, we have created a Corporate Safety Committee (CSC) led by senior management from all departments. Each month, they spend two days conducting a comprehensive safety audit of a selected division’s operations.

The personnel-intensive nature of environmental services requires a relentless focus on environment, health and safety, while striving for quality, timeliness and cost efficiency. 

Understanding the nature of our industry, Emco sustains Health, Safety & Environment (SHE) as a core value.  We believe the principles of strong leadership, visible support and clear guidance to be the best mechanism for building a strong and safe culture, ultimately creating an incident-free workplace without environmental impact. 

Our SHE management system is designed to define, establish and incorporate SHE responsibility and accountability through every level of our organization.  We strive to apply open, honest and clear communication throughout the organization to engage our employees in every aspect of safe operations.

Through its daily focus on these basic principles Emco demonstrates the highest commitment to safe operations and a healthy home life.  Our organization has put in place broad-based teams comprised of all levels employees, to provide the right mechanisms to support our efforts.  Emco’s field execution of our SHE system is at the highest standard resulting from our team commitment to achieve these goals. 
Our policies and procedures were developed together by management and employees who know first-hand the physical challenges of our work sites.  Even with that experience and resolution we are constantly engaged in a company-wide effort to enhance and improve our safety culture so that everyone goes home safely.

HSE Management System

The Emco HSE Management System defines the principles by which we conduct our operations worldwide with regards to health, safety, and the environment.

Management communicates the HSE philosophy to all employees, customers, contractors, and third parties associated with our business, and each Emco organization must provide positive evidence of conformance to the system.

The HSE Management System model comprises eight interrelated components:

  • Commitment and leadership and accountability
  • Policies and objectives
  • Organization and resources
  • Contractor and supplier management
  • Risk management
  • Business processes
  • Performance monitoring and improvement
  • Audits and reviews.

These are continuously improved by conformance checks

  • on day-to-day standards and procedures (controls)
  • on the management system (correction)
  • through modifications to the management system (improvement).

This Policy shall be regularly reviewed to ensure ongoing suitability. The commitments listed are in addition to our basic obligation to comply with Emco standards, as well as all applicable laws and regulations where we operate. This is critical to our business success because it allows us to systematically minimize all losses and adds value for all our stakeholders.
